    Cherry Burl HF

I got in on a wood exchange at another forum and this is the piece I received.
This Burl has a lot of character you can turn it a little and it gives you a totally different view of grain patterns, voids, worm holes and curl each time. I just love working with pieces like this!
Sorry for so many pics but this piece can't be seen with just a few.
    It measures 7 3/4 ” wide X 4” tall.
    Buffed antique oil finish.

      Awesome!

Yet another incredible piece Jim. I need to start burl huntin'. I saw your hollow rig setup on the other forum and it answered alot of questions for me. The only question left is how to talk LOML into the fact that we need one LOL!

A newb question... I assume you pull the piece off for buffing with felt/grinder and wax (or no?)...With the inclusions do you just turn up the lathe speed for any final sanding? I struggled with this on those bowls I did...had to resort to some handsanding due to the uneveness of the rim. If I turned up the speed the vibration got worse for the most part and made sanding more difficult. There was just not enough wood there to support the sandpaper even with a backing pad. I did get one of those sorby sanding disc tools for Xmas, so maybe this will help in those situations. At least it will keep my fingers out of harms way....had a couple of good bruises

Steve, I use an off lathe buffer I used all 3 compounds on this one.
Yes you have to turn up the speed a little higher than normal for sanding pieces like this. I use a power sander for all my sanding I would never hand sand a piece like this with the lathe on.
