    Nova vs Pinnacle Chuck

Woodcraft currently has the Nova Precision chuck on sale for $69. I was ready to buy that, but I just got a Woodcraft flyer for prices starting 12/30 that has a Pinnacle lathe chuck for $85. Now I have no idea which is the better quality unit. If the Pinnacle is worth the extra $15, I'll get that one. But if the Nova really is the best buy between the two- I'll pick it up today.

    What do you think?

I don't have any info on the Pinnacle, but one thing that I noticed is that you can buy different threaded inserts for it to use it on other lathes. If you have two lathes, or see yourself buying a second lathe at some point, this might be an advantage. IIRC, the Nova midi does not have this option -- someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Well I went to woodcraft and asked them what they thought. I spoke to a turner there and he reccomended that I get the Pinnacle over the Nova. Reason being that the nova requires you to use two bars to leverage the jaws open, while the pinnacle uses a single key to screw the jaws shut. I have a 10% off coupon for January as well, so I might as well wait until they have one in stock and get that.

I have a PSI chuck that uses the 2 Tommy bars, and a G3 that uses the 'key'. I seldom use the PSI anymore, the Tommy's are now a big pain, whereas I thought they were great before getting the G3
