around here 4/4 Wenge is $11.50/bf so I figure this chunk is about $150-200 since it's 16/4

That lathe is going for $600+. You think that Wenge is worth $450? I have no idea if it is or not, but his asking price sounds excellent.

Pics coming, but here's what he has to say about it. He hasn't told me to jump in the lake with my chunk of Wenge, so i've got my fingers crosses.

I've had it about three years and turned some candlesticks that year and then didn't do anything with it until about a year ago. Overall it's in excellent shape. I had an extra v-belt so I threw it on a month ago when I listed it for sale. Since then I think I've turned 4 bowls and thats it. Needless to say I've been bitten by the bug this time around so I would like to upgrade to one with a few more bells and whistles. I wish I had heard the addage " buy your last lathe first" a few years ago.

yep. emailed them and they said since I have a GMAIL account and have "russian" in my nickname, they spit me out. They offered to accept me if I reapply since they now know I'm real.

In the mean time I got a good deal on a Turncrafter Pro and got to keep my Wenge. So this weekend I'll stop by woodcraft and get a cheap set of chisels and be ready when the lathe shows up at my door.

It's almost time to make sawdust and make something round at the same time.

Mike you may want to rethink buying a cheap set of chisels at Woodcraft! WC and cheap don't mix well. For cheap, the HF HSS set is a good way to get started, then replace your most used ones with nice Crown/Sorby, etc.
Now you have the slow speed grinder, Wolverine jig to look forward to, and it never ends.........
JMHO, and good luck with the Turncrafter.

Ditto what Ken said on the HF HSS set. (Make sure it's the HSS one.)

And, if you have a nearby HF retail store, look for a mini set of 3 HSS turning tools (skew, parting tool, and gouge?) for something like $12.99. It's a nice little set to have.

                      And congrats on the lathe!

                      Regards,
                      Tom
