Would it be possible to sharpen turning tools on a belt/disc combo sander with a 120 grit belt? Any draw backs to this? Thanks!
Anyone use their belt/disc combo sander to sharpen turning tools?

I use a Ryobi BD4600 to sharpen all of my chisels and while it may not be quite as good as a Tormek system, it gets the job done.I can only please one person a day ........

I've never used a Tormek, but I have used my beld sander on badly dinged cutting edges and I'm amazed at: (1) How fast it cuts, and (2) How it doesn't overheat the cutting edge.Originally posted by hitekrednekI use a Ryobi BD4600 to sharpen all of my chisels and while it may not be quite as good as a Tormek system, it gets the job done.
I still use a diamond stone to put the final edge on, but belt sanders for sharpening are great!Comment

I have the same sander, do you use jigs or do it by freehand?Originally posted by hitekrednekI use a Ryobi BD4600 to sharpen all of my chisels and while it may not be quite as good as a Tormek system, it gets the job done.Comment

Somewhere around here, someone had posted a stand that would let you set the belt/disc sander vertically and have an arm that sticks out at the bottom to use as a guide for the tools. I will see if I can get a picture taken of what I did and post it this afternoon.I can only please one person a day ........
