    Replacement parts for Jet 1014

Well, I now have a lathe. I saw a used Jet 1014 in good condition at a local tool store for $160, and was able to get them down to $135. So now I'm set to get started in the world of turning.

One problem, the lathe didn't have the tailstock pin that secures a spindle. I tried to look on the website, but there wasn't any link for parts on that particular model. Are these parts pretty standard? Where can you buy spares?

Frankly, I'm not sure how you'd go about getting just the tip for your live center ("live" because it spins on a bearing). But you could buy another live center as long as it's on a #2 morse taper (MT2). The live center that comes with the 1014 is a little too "pointy" anyway, IMO, so getting a different brand might be advantageous. (The pointiness mostly makes a difference when using it with pen-making mandrels.)

Or, you could have a machine shop make a replacement. I forget now if it's press-fit or if there's a set screw....

    Regards,
    Tom
