some bowls and a wine stopper

Some of the bowls I've turned, all were turned from regular 8/4 lumber that was dry. I've recently ordered some thicker bowl blanks that are not green but not competely dry either. I'll post after I've tried them.

This bowl is from ambrosia maple, 2" deep and 6" across

Thanks for looking and I hope my posting these pictures will get the ball rolling again with people posting what they've turned. I'm just learning to turn and seeing stuff that the more advanced turners post inspires me and probably others as well.

All very nice! Makes me want to go out to the shop and turn something right now... I love the bocote, and don't remember having seen red cedar that spectacular! How did you finish the bowls?

Those are very nice. It looks like you have been busy. I have been a little lazy this summer myself but I am feeling the itch to get started again.

"How did you finish the bowls?"

The maple and bocote bowls are finished with shellawax cream, the canarywood bowl is finished with spray laquer and the cedar bowl is finished with "salad bowl oil", I don't off hand remember the name but I got it from Woodcraft. The cedar was the last bowl I did and I love the finish so I will probably use it more in the future, it goes on like wipe on polly(which it may be) and dries quickly. I put it on while the bowl is still on the lathe(not running).

Some great looking stuff there! Don’t you just love the way that Canary smells when turning? It is one of my favorite woods to turn. Not to soft and not too hard. Takes a finish well and is so pretty!

Bottle stoppers might be the Christmas gift of the year for me. Is that for yourself or did you make it for someone else? I'm wondering how well they might be received as a gift...

            Nice work...

Those are very nice. One question about wooden bowls--are they just decorational, or are they functional too?
I really am going to make something one of these days.

Very pretty! I love seeing the characteristics of the different woods when they're done.

Actually, for me nothing beats the smell of cedar as it's being turned. My wife even has me save some of the shavings to put in a bowl on the dinning table.

It's a gift for my son in law but I haven't given it to him yet. I drink cheap wine with a screw top
