    Dust Hood Design Help

I have the mobile base for Gingers' lathe near completion but i want to add a dust collection hood. Thinking is to mount it on a T track attached to the rear of the table top and incorporate a light (her request) on the top of the hood. Construction will probably be 1/2" BB ends with 1/8" ABS wrapped to form the hood.

Looking for pictures of collection hoods, especially shop built, along with comments of how well it works and what you would have done different.

Here is an article I wrote for Penturners.org It would be easy enough to make a hood out of plexi "ala Styron".

Here's something I put together for my lathe. It attaches to the lathe bed, with a big homemade washer underneath. It's articulated so that it can keep clear of the banjo, and still come up close to the workpiece.

It works well, is easy to position, and holds its position well.

I don't try to collect chips; I only run the DC when sanding and finishing.

          Regards,
          Tom
