    An Addict is Born

Ginger, aka Kitten, aka SWMBO attended a pen making class at Woodcraft today. During the day I got calls in the realm of, "Do we have this?", "Do I need to buy this?". She wound up spending $50-ish on sanding strips, a couple of acrylic blanks, finishing sticks...

The result of the class was this Tulipwood Euro style pen.

I think it looks great, but I could be a bit biased. Needless to say, the priorities have changed on the project list....The lathe stand/cabinet just moved to the top of the list!

Very nice looking pen. It's OK to be biased - especially if you're right

Dang! That's her first turning? Wonderful work, Ginger, and I ain't just saying that to be polite. Even if you've turned before that's a beautiful pen, first or not.
Be very proud of what you did.

That looks awesome. Looks like you better keep the small playpen if you get the new one and set it up for SWMBO.

          Well it’s about time!

Great looking pen by the way and an excellent first effort to say the least.

I emailed the link to this thread to Ginger so I will let her sign on and respond for herself. To say the least I am proud of her first effort and plum tickled that she enjoyed it.

No fights or arguments over lathe time. It was bought for her so she has priority. For now it's set up on the back porch so she can use it while I get a rolling stand built.

Now to find a good source for pen kits.

I agree with the others. It is a beautiful pen. If you had not said so I would never have thought it was her first. You should be proud.

                        Pen kits

Several years ago, I used to get the kits from Berea Hardwoods and was very pleased with the quality. There are probably many other sources now that are good also.
By the way, tell LOYL that is a nice looking pen.

Some good links are shown at the IAP web site. Lots of good articles and how-to's about pen making stuff. Nice folks there too. I recommend Arizona Silhouette for pen kits at good prices. http://www.penturners.org/forum/portal.asp

What was it? 2 years and a month to get the thing running?

Glad to hear that it's up and running and there is a new turner.
