    Possibly some nice turning wood?

The house across the street just cut down a HUGE tree, which is now at the curb waiting for bulk trash pickup Thurs. morning, I presume. I'm not certain what type of tree it is, my guess is elm based mainly on the leaves.

I haven't entered the world of turning, at leat not yet, but I thought somebody might be interested in picking up some of these blocks if you are near the Garland, TX area.

Here's a few pictures, hopefully you can get a sense of scale from my size 11 foot. The hollow sections are about the same size as the solid (~3ft dia.)

I think it's elm for sure. I'm just getting started turning myself so wouldn't know how to go about getting a huge log like that ready to turn but I'm sure there are several guys here who could help you with that. I'd grab a few of the solid logs for sure.

Have not turned elm yet, so I don't know how it turns. And a bit far for me to pick some up... If you do pick some, be sure to seal the ends otherwise it will crack in no time and render the wood useless. Also do not discount the hollow pieces! The left one in the third photo looks like it might have some amazing looking wood hidden in it. But it's hard to tell from the photo, often you don't know until you turn it.
