I use the DNA method for drying all my green turnings. It works Great!

                Box Elder

I was given the opportunity to cut up an unknown tree trunk a few months ago. I’ve been told that it was Box Elder; the blanks are all lacking the red blaze, however. Now I’m not sure what the species is, but it the color of your vase looks very much like mine. I do have a bunch of it. Very nice looking vase.

                    Beautiful work!

As a learning turner, I have no clue what this is. I tried to search on Google and came up with a bunch of stuff about genomes and how wood still has DNA, even when dry.

                    What is the DNA method?

DNA stands for denatured alcohol. Soaking a project in it is supposed to decrease the drying time and minimize checking (cracking). Here's one article on the subject.

                      http://www.woodcentral.com/cgi-bin/r...cles_473.shtml

I haven't tried it myself, but after seeing some of the great turnings Jim has posted I think I will give it a try.

Hope this helps, and please correct me if I am wrong Jim.

                      Good luck,
                      BobL.

Ahhh. Thanks for that. I've heard of that method, just never heard of DNA as an abbreviation. I was trying to figure out where Deoxyribonucleic Acid fit into this.
