CA doesn't work well at 25 degrees

A tale of a new lathe, travels, flu, and a burning desire to make some pens!

I ordered a Rikon lathe from Woodcraft several days before their 10% off day (Sat, Feb. 4th) and asked them to process it on that day. They did that and I got the 10% off.

It arrived on the 8th of Feb, but unfortunately, I left on Feb. 3 for a two week trip in NV and CA to visit friends, family and speak at related churches and conferences.v We were due back on the 16th but had to lay over in Denver due to our routing through Chicago being way backed up. We got to Memphis on Friday, our luggage was already there waiting on us; the long travel had me tired totally out and coming down with a flu.

Arrived home, weather getting down to the mid teens and no way to turn a pen in this cold weather in an unheated shed/shop. I did get the Lathe out of the box and put together, mounted on a table while nursing a flu.

Sunday afternoon, I went out and turned a simple pen. Temp was 25°. Applied CA glue. Left it. 5 minutes later, still liquid! Left it there and will check it Monday! LOML is still fussing at me as she caught me sneaking out to check on it.

Life is too short to let a flu and fever keep one from caressing fine wood!

CA Glue sets up with the moisture in the wood. At 25 degrees, the moisture is frozen and can't react with the glue. I used to use a lot of CA when building RC sailpanes, years ago.
