    Chucks

I was wanting to get the Barracuda2 from PennState, but really don't feel like waiting until March for it. Can anyone make any other suggestions on something that's comparable in price? Or someone else that sells them?

I got the Jet Mini and was wanting to turn small bowls and vases.

I have read where this Apprentice chuck is the same as the Barracuda2. It is $4-5 higher, but may be available from them. I do not have any experience with either chuck, but have one of the Barracuda2's on backorder to be shipped this month. I think PSI is have a real hard time at keeping up on this item. When I called in November, I was told that all of the December shipment has already been sold and mine will be the latter part of January. Now it looks like all of the January shipment is sold.

I am using PSI's Utility Chuck right now and do not have any problems with it. A second one I ordered had a runnout problem that was noticeable by just watching it spin. I had read where others had problems with the threaded insert, but that was not the case with mine. I opted to send it back for a refund and PSI did offer to send me another one. Since it is still on sale for $44.95 (code E-10229A), I have reordered and waiting to receive it. That will allow me to keep a different set of jaws on each one and not have to fiddle with changing all the time.

    Good luck in you pursuit!

I first would recommend the Talon,,, being that you want to stay within that price, you might check the Vicmarc look-a-like at Grizzly.

        Thanks guys!

The Apprentice chuck looks just like the Barracuda2, I think I'll give them a call.
I did look at Grizzly though and could'nt find the Vicmarc. Do you happen to have a link to it?

Well it figures the Apprentice chuck is on back order too. I guess I'll be making a trip to Woodcraft for the Talon.

I am using the Nova Midi on my Jet and am very happy with it. I bought it at Woodcraft with both the 50 mm and 25 mm jaws for around $160.00.

I had the Nova bought it w/ the 25% off coupon, then I got a Penn State catalog saw the Barracuda2 and returned the Nova. I waited a couple of days and called PS and was told it was back ordered until March. That in itself is upsetting, send a catalog w/ item in it in January that hasn't been in stock since November. Foneman recommends the Apprentice and of course their site says nothing about the backorder either. So I went back to Woodcraft and bit the bullet on the Talon. Starting to think I should have just gone w/ the Nova or Vicmarc which looks just like the Talon, but $99.00 instead of $185.00.
I'll just keep the Talon, I'm sure it will work just fine.

Thanks to everyone who responded though.

You won't be dissapointed. I know it seems like a lot, but its good spent money.
