i get this great stuff from a local guy who imports african hardwoods by the container-full(lots of containers)
these are boards of many widths/thicknesses,but all under 6' pretty much. apparently anything under 6' in this wood, the big lumber dealers dont want and its considered"scrap" they actually toss it in the furnaces in africa![V]
so to get better prices on the good stuff, this guy buys this "scrap" at dirt-cheap rates...
his price to our club members? $1.00/2.00-boardfoot (i really didnt mean this to be a gloat post
) same $ for edinam,sapele and some other af.hardwood.
anyhow this 12"x 3 or 4" bowl was for a coworker, ordered it as a gift for his father whos a woodworker.his pops has a 36"wide planer[:0] i never seen something that big in a home shop! i messed with these a bit, just cropping the white paper background out..almost worked,it was a quick hack job.
for kiln-dried wood,it wasnt half bad to turn.i definitely prefer greenwood though...
