    My new lathe *update*

Picked up a new lathe today @ Sears, it's their 15" Professional model 351.217150 variable speed. Regularly $479.00 on sale for $449.00

What's the consensus on this lathe? Did I get a good lathe, or not?

Oh, yeah, I forgot, paid $216.00 + tax,(floor model). Does this qualify for a gloat?

*UPDATE* OK I have to do a follow up on this transaction. I am sad to report this lathe did not pass muster. I was premature with my post, and I have to eat crow here, the lathe motor made sounds, but there was no rotation on the arbor to be had. I returned the lathe to Sears, and got my money back. I should have waited until the results were in, sorry lads, it was a misadventure.[V]

Don't know anything about that lathe, but the price tag certainly qaulifies the buy as a gloat!

That definitely qualifies as a gloat. I've seen that lathe--looks very nice and sturdy, a little overpriced at $479 IMO, but a steal at $216.

I remember when they first came out there was some problems with the motor or electronics. IIRC that was a couple of years ago. I have not heard anything about it since, good or bad. Looks nice And that is a REALLY good price

Hoover, sorry about your disappointment. I still have not taken mine out of the box. I think I better do that soon.

It was on a close out, they did an inventory check and there weren't any more to be had at that price. Sears is not discontinuing the lathe, the store decided to no longer stock lathes. So my only option was to get my money back.

Might be wise considering what I heard in the past and Hoovers problem[]

Sorry to hear that lathe turned out bad. Were I you, I'd look hard at the HF that's popular here. I think it's on sale now for $200.00 and they got the 20% thing going for a few more days.
