I just got the newsest Penn State Industries catalog and they had a few mini lathes that weren't to expensive. When buying a lathe what shoule I look for? Doe sany one have any experience with ny of the mini lathes from penn state? Such as the TCLPRO or the TCLPLUS or hte CML4SE. It's not going to be a tool I use often was thinking of making some pens and wine stoppers, and would like to turn table legs. Thanks for the input.

I have a Jet mini w/extension, which I think would be a minimum for table legs. It looks like 2 of the 3 on your list only have 1/4HP, and pretty small "swing" distance (diameter of largest turning). The TurnCrafter Pro seems to have the same specs as (clone of?) the Jet, but I can't say anything about its quality/etc.
I think the 1/2HP is nice to learn on since it's power isn't quite so daunting. Also, #2MT is pretty standard -- easy to find accessories for. You'll find #2MT on the larger lathes, too, so if/when you upgrade you'll be able to use the same stuff. 1" 8TPI headstock is also easy to find accessories for.
You'll have to decide if variable speed is important to you. If not, you get to save a few $$. Keep in mind that variable speed does not necessarily mean no pulley changing.

Tom
p.s. Either you change your sig line, or I'm gonna have to get a keyboard cover!
