John, you're the best!!! I'll print this out right away. Pardon my ignorance on HF (I've never bought anything there) but this should be good at any store, correct?
I have never had them argue about prices when I bring in some type of printout. They usually even honor the last expired sale brochure when I tell them I live out of town and do not make it on a regular basis.

I just bought this arrangement on Monday for $171.67 including tax. I would be glad to scan the receipt for you so you can use it for price matching as well. Just send me an email where to send it to.

You know, write that number #34706 on a crisp $20 and slide it to the cashier, tell you had a rain check for the sale price. Works everytime and you'll still save a bunch. (just kidding)

There are many catalogs and sales flyers and 10%/20 discount coupons, you'll find a way. Enjoy the lathe, I think you'll like it.

Don't forget to grab the Windsor tool set while you're there! You'll be glad you did.

I talked to the manager at HF about the deal that John had gotten, and he said the lathe was going on sale for that price today through Sunday. And he confirmed that the 20%-off coupon applies!

Thanks again for all the help, guys.

You're welcome Chris. You could ruin your life with a lot worse things, like John already said. You'll thank us again if it turns into a good hobby for you and you outgrow the HF lathe. Then the money you didn't spend buying the Grizzly or the Jet you can apply buying a Oneway. (Or other tools and accessories.)

                    Like collecting old handplanes...

Day # 300 of having bought no handplanes (new Veritas LA block plane doesn't count) and counting...

BTW, did I mention I got a lathe recently?? Here it goes again!

I did see the lathe you got, Jeff. Looks nice. Have started using it yet?

I have been playing with the lathe for the last week--I agree this is more fun than just about anything legal I can think of. I've turned a few candlesticks, nothing dramatic.

My lathe has a unique spindle that will not accept usual chucks or adapters. I made a 4-point spur out of a maple disk and countersunk screws which works pretty well.

Coincidentally, I just cut down a number of trees on my property--elm, birch and box elder--all should provide good wood for turning--now I don't have to throw it in the fireplace!
