    Woodcraft Pen Turning Class?

I know absolutely nothing about lathes and turning in general and would like to get some professional instruction instead of 'by the seat of my pants'. I already have the PSI cd but would still like to have more specified instruction.

So, would anyone recomment the Woodcraft Pen Turning Class for a newbie? IIRC, it is about a day long class, max size of 6 for $65.

    Thanks

I went to it Ken and I enjoyed it. I recommend you take it and you will leave from there with a pen that you made. I didn't know anything when I went and it was very educational.

I took one with Billy B. at the Seattle store about four years ago and enjoyed it. Learned a bit too.

Best penturning video I have ever seen is by a fellow named Bill Baumbeck.

He has a little business selling "eye candy" (best pen blanks I have seen) and the video is almost 2 hours long. He carefully explains every step and I still pick up something new every time I watch it.

Take the class, then buy the video to reinforce what you have learned.

Also, If you are interested in turning pens you should check out the IAP:

I haven't taken a turning class and would probably be a better turner if I had. I did take the Woodcraft turning tool sharpening class, it was well worth the cost.

A pen turning class at Rockler got me started turning, that was 2 years ago. Early this year I took a box turning class at Woodcraft. Both classes were worth every penny.
