Box for CrashResq (Bill in OK)

Recently CrashResq (Bill in OK) came to Phoenix on some business. He posted his interest in getting together with the locals of which I am one.
We did the standard woodworking stores in the area and went to my favorite supplier of exotic woods. We each picked up some interesting pieces of stock. We had to slice a piece up that he bought so it could fit in his luggage. He was kind enough to give me a piece of this nice wood, and this is what I made:

It's a little fuzzy I know but I didnt have time to review the pics before sending it off to my mom for a birthday gift.

I can't remember what kind of wood it is so I'll have to wait for Bill to chime in to remind me.

It was nice spending time with a fellow BT3'er. Anyone coming to Phoenix should look me up and I'll give you the nickel tour also.

    Thanks Bill!

    That is beautiful.

I second your comment about meeting other forum members. If I ever get back to AZ you are on my list.

SWEEEET!!!.... I haven't got a chance to turn any of it yet. Now I'm more excited about it. Only one problem... I don't remember what it was called either! I was going to ask you

I did turn a small ring box from the other wood I got from the same place. It went to my mom also (it was a ring box for a ruby ring my dad bought her). I'll get a picture of it the next time I'm at their house to post.

Anyone going to Phoenix needs to meet up with Bill (in AZ) and get the tour. The mill where the above wood comes from is really interesting and he's got A LOT of exotic woods. I wish I'd had more time to spend visiting (and more room to haul goodies!). Thanx again Bill for the tour and the hospitality.

Sorry that I have been real busy and have not had time to post a reply, very well done and pretty box.

It looks like Myrtlewood to me.

Well Bill, since we're both suffering from CRS, you are going to have to break down and drive back out to the mill and find out what this stuff was... and you wouldn't want to waste a trip out, with gas prices and all, so you'll probably have to pick up some more stuff

Kenneth.... good guess, that does look close, but I believe this wood was some sort of South American variety...

I'll be out in Denver near the end of October (24th thru the 28th) if there are any Denver BTers that want to meet up, drop me an email.
