    Woodturners Gloat;

    This afternoon myself and the wife took a ride up to Rockler to pick up something real quick. I had received an email from the store stating that they had received a shipment of Peruvian turning blocks but I did not think much of it as exotics are so very expensive and I have spent too much lately. I must admit that I love turning exotic woods the most as the figures and textures are always a surprise.

    So as we wandered around I came across this very large pile of large turning blanks. One in particular caught my eye. It was about 4”X4”X12” so I asked Max the manager how much it was. He looked at it and said “Just a bit over $7.50”! You have to understand that I have paid upwards of $40 for a piece of Australian wood that size. Max said they were selling the wood by the Board Foot rather than its weight. With that and the wife’s permission I loaded up!

    This is the wood that came home with me in the back of the wife’s SUV.

    I also had a $10 email coupon so this entire load cost me $147.75 which is unreal for this kind of wood! It is all very dense hard woods and appears to be very dry. Looks like I am set for awhile.

    Nice score.
    I expect some beautiful turnings will show up soon from it.

        As an addendum to my post; I believe I have found where Rockler obtained this wood from. They have pictures of the wood and explanations of the naming on there “About Us page” and so on. Anyhow if you’re just surfing about take a look at the “Inventory” section. I thought it was pretty neat as I got to see what some of the wood I bought looks like turned.

        Also the Rockler price was a lot cheaper!

          Wood Gloat?

          You really suck, but I guess you already know that.

          Think I need to take a road trip to Texas and pay my friend a visit.

          You will take pity on me won't you Kenneth?

          I didn't think so. [V]
