    Challenging little project

A while ago I posted a question about turning brass. This is the project it was for.

A friend at work was using a magnifying glass he put together to read drawings. I was marveling at the craftsmanship and how scratched up the glass had become and I told him I wished he had asked me as I think I could have done a slightly better job. So, he whips around in his chair, opens a drawer and pulls out another lens and says, " I was hoping you would say something". I walked right into that one. Trust me when I say 'his' looks MUCH better in the pic than in person.

BTW, what I ended up using for the brass ring above the handle is the outer portion of a brass quick disconnect for an air hose !

The magnifier is Cherry, box is Oak.

Very nice work. The air hose fitting is a great idea, it is fun to come up with a use for something that it wasn't intended to do.

Thanks guys. And mudder, that is high praise indeed.

For such a simple looking item it presented quite a challenge for me. It took three tries to finally figure out how to laminate the Cherry surround that secures the lens.

I forgot to mention the maginfier is around 13" overall and the lens in from one of those round florecsent manifying lamps.

              Thanks again,
              BobL.
