    Caddies

I'm doing a bit more lathe demonstrating now and transporting all the tools and other equipment became a bit of a pain. I had a dig in my "scrap" pile and came up with these two:

    Here they are loaded:

The tool caddy contains a range of gouges, a couple of scrapers and parting tools. Also hanging in the center are my short and long chuck keys, plus the headstock stop bar and taper release bar. Here's a detail shot of the lathe parts box:

At the top, two different length tool rests and the post of my "inside/outside bowl" set. Next, the "outside" rest ("inside" rest clipped to the lid), then, from the left my 4" chuck, Jacobs' chuck, drive center, Jacobs' chuck key, live center, screw chuck/faceplate, chuck release spanner and 4" faceplate. I reckon I'll be able to cope with most tasks with that kit, all of which fits my woodturning club's lathe as well as mine.

Not very pretty, but certainly functional.

    Ray.

I think that they look great, Ray. The chisel caddy could easily be set up as a carosel/lazy suzan type affair inside a cabinet.

Ray, that was a great idea and an excellent way to use your scrap.

Looks good to me Ray. "Necessity is the mother of invention." I dunno who originally said that, but boy, was that ever a correct statement. I'm certain no one who see that will think the less of it. I did have a thought you might want to douse it with Watco or the UK equivalent if you haven't yet, to protect it.

Thanks for the comments, guys - appreciated!

Dave - I thought about finishing the caddies, very nearly got out the paintbrush too, then decided against it. I'll probably hit them with diluted sanding sealer when I get a moment, followed by Danish Oil if they're lucky, but I'm very busy at the moment, so it's not a priority. They'll live in the dry and when loaded will only go the short distance from the van to the demo, so I guess it'll wait a while - it'll be one of those "rainy day" jobs!

          Ray.
