    Just for fun

I was about to heave a piece of pear wood into the "firewood for a friend" box, when I changed my mind and decided to turn it just for fun. Here's what emerged:

    It's 140mm (5.5") in diameter and 65mm (2.5") tall.

The finish is Danish Oil, followed by two coats of wax.

    Ray.

    WOW, hidden tresure
All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dream with open eyes, to make it possible

Beautiful, it would have been a shame to burn that piece of wood.

Beautiful, Ray. And the blue background really sets it off.

Feel the call of the lathe, feel it tugging at your wallet[]

I'll bet you could make some spectacular bowls with Shining Gum, which I understand is pretty cheap in your parts.

Yep, that sure is sharp. Bet your glad you rescued that piece. Did it go to the friend that got the firewood, or did someone closer lay claim to it?

              Nice work.

I'm doing a lathe demonstration soon, so it'll come with me to that and probably sell there. I've since dug out another piece I scrapped because there was so much pith, so I'll turn that and see what happens.

Note to Rod: turning makes loads of mess!

Thanks for all the comments, BTW - much appreciated.

                    Ray.
