We have all been down this road, but this one had a bit of a strange twist to it. Several years ago, I lost track of a 1/4 inch drive, 1/4 inch hex socket from my very old Craftsman set. It is not very big. I finally gave up looking for it and this spring I grabbed a replacement no name socket at the local independent hardware store. Today, I was rummaging in the electrical junk box for a wiring coupling to fix the clothes dryer. In the bottom corner of the cardboard box was the long lost hex socket! I have absolutely no idea how it got there since the box is shelved on the opposite side of the shop from the tool wall. Just another anecdotal example of how to find a lost tool, go buy a replacement!
