A few weeks ago I met a friend who has a commercial cabinet shop and does mainly large builds for architect type work. When I told him I was getting into turning he said he has a lathe in his shop that never gets used and is just gathering dust. He said I could have it on long term loan if I have the room for it. I went down there today and picked up a very lightly used Jet 1642 EVS. The only caveat is if he needs to use it he can come to my shop to do so. Thats no problem and I guess if he wants it back I will have to buy a new one :-(

Yup, I just had to clear up around the space my little lathe was in to make room for this. Lots of sawdust and shavings everywhere. Need to figure out some better dust collection.Jon

Bill I am aspiring to your setup. However, I dont think I will end up with 3 lathes and I am absolutely certain I cant keep my shop that clean! I did however just order one of those Penn State magnetic clear dust hood like you have. I have been using a big gulp which works fine for sanding dust but doesnt seem to catch much of the debris from general turning.Jon

Here it is all assembled in its new home. Its baby brother got moved 90 degrees and I had to small up the stand as I neither needed the extra surface or had room. Also as I now have plenty of bed on the Jet I no longer needed the home made bed extension on the Comet. I do really need to figure out how to arrange open storage for the chucks, centers and other accessories as they are now just in a couple of bins which is not ideal.
