    Gas spring question

I need to replace a worn gas spring on a JDS multirouter I just bought. After some research I found someone used the following model to replace the one on their multirouter. I'm thinking I need to re-use the ball joint fitting (not sure of exact term) on the old gas spring? Do you know how you're supposed to take it out or should I buy a new one? If so, where and do you know what it's actually called?

I reject your reality and substitute my own.

It is called a gas strut and mount to a little ball that fastened to door frame and to ball an item you are using. there should be a little release on each end to get it off the ball/mount it should just snap back on. The are use on car trunks. hoods, hatches There should be some instruction with it telling how to change them.
