Son of a gun it works!!-Delta band mill Part-III

    When I started: http://www.bt3central.com/showthread...-bandsaw-mill/

    When I last left off:http://www.bt3central.com/showthread...d-mill-Part-II

After using this a few times as is I decided to make a gantry and rail system for the sawhead. It's 180 lbs and about 5 feet wide, just can't do that by yourself. I can't anyway.

I have getting more into welding, a nice button on your boy scout sash to have around the farm. Gathered up metel using my urban mining teniques and finally got around to building the gantry.

I wish I was productive enough to warrant my own band mill! That is cool.

How do you ensure your blade is parallel to the log as you lower the blade? How do you dial in the thickness--eyeball it?

I forgot to include pictures of the depth of cut. Here is the high visibility micro adjustable depth of cut indicator. A piece of painted plastic with a line a 4/4 measuring stick. On the other side is 6/4. Kerf is added to the scale already. I make a flat cut and then move the magnet and plastic pointer to a line, lower it down and cut. Simple..

The yellow metal thingie does a good job of keeping the blade square as I raise and lower the saw head. I added more brackets that really helped keep it level enough for rough sawn wood.

I was hoping that would be included in the new website

I am envious, envious, envious. I would love to have one of those machines!

Great work! I enjoy welding and cutting! Haven't done either in a long time!

                Awesome.

When I first saw it, the first thing I did was check your location. Unfortunately (probably fortunately for you, LOL) you're not close to me.

Mesquite ? Unless you took a trip to Flag or CottonWood I couldn't imagine what else you'd find in the desert! That's one nice thing about living in the Nor-Easter. I put a craigslist add up and people give me pine, maple, elm, ash, cherry. Now I can take the logs and do something with them!

And thank you all for the kind words folks. I wish each of you did live closer and could stop by with your most cherished firewood saves to mill up.
