    Mr. Clean works for me!

I like to pick up old folding rules at estate and garage sales. The workmanship and materials are beautiful for such mundane workshop items.

Getting the rules clean has always been a challenge. Not wanting to use too strong a solvent I generally used just a mild soap and a little water. That worked to remove light soil, but not the heavy gunk.

My daughter's recently told me about "Mr. Clean Magic Erasers" that they use to clean the trails of grime that the grand-boys leave. I moistened the Mr. Clean pad and the oily grime right off my most recent find! It only took two minutes to clean the top of the rule! A little wax and it's ready to use.

    Give it a try.

You might think I haven't contributed much to the world, but a large number
of the warning labels on tools can be traced back to things I've done...

My cousin introduced the Magic Eraser to us. Now it's my wife's go-to for the hard stuff like that. It is a mysterious product. It's like a very fine sanding sponge with what seems to be some kind of soap incorporated into it. Maybe it is just magic.

My wife is hooked on them. They are great for cleaning walls from 2 dogs and 3 cats.

Mr. Clean is my wife's favorite. I hope they don't follow suit with the eraser like they did the Auto Car Wash kit. I loved this thing to wash my RV and then they discontinued it.

The magic erasers are in fact a very fine abrasive (note to self- check to see if they'll improve the polish on a pen finish).

So it's possible to wear away whatever you're cleaning- eventually. But I use it on stainless steel, on cast iron, on all sorts of things. The ones with an additional cleaner in them are OK, but I prefer the ones without. On stove tops and with getting that baked on grease from a pan- they can't be beat.

They are indeed great. If normal cleaning doesn't do it, I always pull one out and am completely satisfied.

Just curious, but has anyone used one on the outside of a car to get off hard to clean grime?

++ they really are great, and ingenious on the manufacturer's part to make a product that disintegrates when properly used! lol
