V-Belts

Where do you go to buy your v-belts (Grizzly of course sells them, but I was hoping to get something today)? Tried the auto parts store and struck out, but haven't made it to HD or Lowe's yet.

The belts on my saw have a M-26 stamp on them. They are smaller than I would have expected. Never heard of anything but A and L belts before. Anybody know the conversion between M and something I can buy locally?

Anyone think I can get a banded belt instead of three separate ones?

For now I am using HF link belt for two of the three belts, leaving one pulley empty. Seems to work, but I haven't cut anything yet. The link belt is definitely bigger than the M-26 though.

You could try measuring the inside of the pulley. The belt should ride near the top and never touch the bottom of the groove. The letters and numbers may be the manufacturers marking and mean nothing. Anyway once you know the width and length an industrial or small engine shop should be able to set ya up.

Chances of finding odd sized belts on a Sunday are slim to none. Check your yellow pages for tool repair shops tomorrow. Had the same problem with my Ryobi DP needeing narrower belts than parts houses sell.

I think the M may designate matched belts. Just from that particular manufacturer most likely. I didn't see it in MC's listings.

If I could not find a belt that I needed locally, MC always had a replacement so far. I mean really odd belts too. Measure what you have though. That or just try out the link belts. Matched belt sets are not cheap. If your machine will do what you want on two link belts, then there you go.

Actually our local hardware store (True Value) has quite the selection of belts, that's where I got replacement belts for my HF lathe. Might be worth a shot.

I've had luck at a local appliance store for things like that. You might also try a Sears parts store.

When you find the belts buy extras!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And while your at it how about the other belts in the shop, maintenance goes a long ways don't get caught again, I just had a similar problem. My garden tractor doubles as my snow blower. I've got the loader but it uses allot of fuel so I try to use the garden tractor as much as possible. Sooooooooooo as I was blowing snow the belt came off. I really took myself to the wood shed over that, I knew it was in need of replacement! The nearest replacement was in Seattle! Well I got the new belt just in time for clear and very cold sky's. That belt lasted 9 years but really got me to thinking about the other belts I have, yep bought extras for the drill press, band saw, the Bt3000, air compressor well you get the idea. I did buy Kevlar when it was available and hung them up on a belt rack.
