    Worksharp Squeaking

For Christmas 2010 I received a Worksharp 3000. I used it once or twice for about 5 minutes each session. Recently, I pulled it out to sharpen a number of planer irons and chisels. After about 5 minutes it started making a squeaking sound like a belt slipping. I thought the mechanism worked by gear reduction rather than a belt. Has anyone else had this problem? Or is it even a problem - it seems to work okay. Thanks.

I haven't had a squeaking problem with my 3000. I'm not even sure how the drive works.

      Stopping the squeak

I had the same problem and called WS. The solution is to loosen the nuts on the top slightly. Apparently, when the attaching nuts are too tight, they contact the belt and cause this.

It seems odd to loosen them, but I did it and haven't had any squeak since - several months. If I remember, a quarter turn did the trick.

WS was extremely helpful and very nice; so if you have problems or concern, give them a call on the 800 number.

Thanks, Harold. I'll give it a try.
