Ryobi brings back 18 Volt Miter Saw

Remember the Ryobi P 550 18 Volt Miter saw?

    It's Reborn as the P 551 and includes a Laser guide, but unlike the P 550 that was 8.5 ", the new P 551 is 7.25"

Nice light-weight specialty power tool that should perform better now that lithium batteries are available. The 7 1/4 blade is more readily available and should be great for occasional trim work. Priced like other Ryobi cordless power tools 119

I remember all of the posts over on the Ryobi forum (remember when there used to be a "Ryobi Forum"?) when they discontinued the old model. I'm not sure how popular it was when it was on the shelves; but when it disappeared it seems that everybody and their cousin wanted one.

I did see the new model last week at my local BORG. It looked like just thing if you were strickly a trim guy. The Li-I battery should provide much better life between charges.

I do agree that the smaller blade would be a positive, though perhaps limiting on the the width of cut. But for normal trim, I don't think that should be a problem.

A year ago they would have gotten me to buy one. Today? Probably not. Although if it included the big battery and the charger I might consider it.

Don't know what I would do with two miter saws though.

            ryobi 18v. mitersaw

Have had one of these for years. Have three mitersaws total; one a slider. The old ryobi gets used the most. No setup time; carry it in, put it down, set the angle, cut the molding. Pick it up, carry it out, put it in the truck--go home.

No cords to rig, does 85% of all miter cuts (mostly molding, of course), and only get out the slider for cross-cutting.

Now--if they would only bring back the big 18v. Vacuum!!!

I know this is an old thread but I thought this might interest some of you. I picked up the P551 miter saw at HD yesterday for $23....Yes you read that correctly. It was originally maltemarked @ $119 and I asked the tool guy why it was so cheap. He said he wasn't sure if there was a new model coming out or they were discontinuing it.......none the less, I jumped on it. The Ryobi work great for me and are priced right. It will fit in nicely in my shop.

I'd stow one in the shop somewhere if I could find one, but I can't find any in Region 1 anymore.

A few weeks ago, saw an open box for $60. Little did I know it would be the last one I saw, period.
