Sears Digital Miter Guage - Does it work?

    Good morning

I was lookiing at the Digital Miter Guage at Sears last night and wondering if anyone had any experience using it in the miter slots on their BT3xxx. If you do, could you please share with me?

Bought one took it back. Not accurate and flimsy. I use a Wixey digital angle gauge. I place the gauge on my BS table and zero it. Then place MG on table with miter slot bar hanging down. Place gauge on bar, set the angle and tighten.

Major advantage to this is: I use it to set TS, CS and JS, blade angle, DP table, BS table, Jointer fence, etc. This is just a few uses for this. Amazon is now offering this for $30.00 with free shipping.
Mine is accurate where as the Rockler gauge for $20.00 I have is not.

just to be clear, this is the wixey you are attributing good accuaracy to:

        http://www.amazon.com/Wixey-WR300-Di...8561726&sr=1-1

and this is the rockler "equivalent" you are noting is less accurate:

there's a solution to every problem.......you just have to be willing to find it.

I haven't used the sears guage, nor put my hands on one. It looks interesting, but there sure is a lot of plastic on it.

I picked up an Incra V120 a while back. It's been a great, accurate miter guage. For odd angles I'll set the Incra with a digital protractor I got from Lee Valley http://www.leevalley.com/US/wood/pag...78&cat=1,43513 I found their $20 guage to be pretty accurate and reliable.

For the price of the sears digital miter you could pick up a proven miter guage and a digital protractor. Like Charlie mentioned; the digital guage can be used for a whole lot more things than just riding in a miter slot.

            Sitting on my doorstop

            Greetings

I'm an idiot! I paid extra when I ordered yesterday for 2 day shipping so I could play with this Wixey thing over the weekend. According to UPS, it is already on my doorstep. Seems if left from Indy, about an hour away from me.

Wondering if I should have bought the protractor instead. Looks as if that does everything this gauge does and can set miter bars also

They are both very useful. I have the Wixey angle gauge too. It's really great for setting an angle on my saw. It's easier than a protractor.

You might buy a couple extra coin batteries for it. I've grabbed mine several times only to find it with a dead battery.
