    Need a motor

I have one of those Lee Valley Belt Sander units and need a small hp motor (.33 or less).
Where can I get one without costing an arm and a leg? (San Antonio area or online).

Check Tractor Supply or Northern Tools. You also might keep an eye on Cragsllist for something you can salvage a motor from.

Try one of your local heat/a-c contractors. They usually have some good used
fractional hp motors that could be bought cheaply.

Check CL & eBay. I was able to get an excellent used Leeson 1/2 HP motor for $50 shipped on eBay.

*HOWEVER* - be sure that any motor you buy will run in the proper (CCW) direction. Many inexpensive motors for fan applications seem to run CW only. Do NOT assume that rotation is reversible. DAMHIKT. But if you want a screaming deal on a 1/3 HP Dayton motor with fixed CW rotation, please let me know!!

I love that Lee Valley sander. Popping belts on and off is a snap, and it is extremely smooth. As you may know, Viel Tools Inc. is the manufacturer.

Also, check-out the Klingspor belts. The Alumina Zirconia variety are awesome and seem to last forever.

Automation Direct has motors at a reasonable price.

Grainger's good for stuff like that, if you have an account with them.
