A good day...and about the Ridgid BS

Moved into a new house at the beginning of December, in the perilous position of being within a long walk of the flagship Lee valley store. Today was an in-house Veritas plane demo with up to 20% back in gift card value, depending on how much you spent. Suffice to say I got 20% back, and will observe a 'Don't ask, don't tell' with SWMBO.

However, I also poked my head into a local auction house, and they had an unloved and seemingly unwanted Ridgid BS1400-2 from a receivership sale for $200, complete with mobile base. I have been looking at some others for a lot more, mainly for resawing, so it seemed like a no-brainer. Saw was in good shape, mostly just dirty, though with a moderate level of vibration. I have one of the Ryobi 10 inch BS, which I love to use, but it is just too small for a lot of cuts.

I have looked around, and already know I will be burning that LV gift card on urethane tires, a new belt, cool blocks, some new blades and probably some guides. I also want a riser kit, and I would really value some input on others experience with the various compatible riser kits out there - seems almost any will work. I just don't want a lot of hassle around it, so wondering about the Grizzly/Delta/Jet/Ridgid kits, how flat they arrived and that kind of thing.

I'd also value anyone's suggestions on any other steps to eliminate the notorious vibration (anyone made a mobile base with drawers?) such as putting a plywood top on the stand, or any links - I know I have seen quite a few over the years.

P.S. The Veritas bevel up smoother plane is a work of art in your hand...

    Congrats!
I have the Ridgid Band Saw. I like Ridgid tools as they are a good value and easy to insept and buy at Home Depot. No doubt the BS is the weak link in their line up. I also bought mine used, it was a return and I got it for $275 several yrs ago.

I know have this saw working like a champ with only minimal time and $$$.

    1. Link Belt.

    2. Polyeurathane wheels.

    3. Cool Blocks

    4. Most important is a solid base...either add 3/4 inch plywood or MDF to the standPlacing the entire saw on a mobile table I had.

    5. Timberwolf Blade.

This now can pass the nickel test and resaws 6 inch oak, maple, walnut w/o a riser with no issues at all.

    Pics on my website.
