Delta 18 X 36 Opportunity

I have a line on a used version of this sander. The seller started out low and received a ton of offers, now he is throwing us against each other. Now the price has escaladed to deeper waters, $400. I know this is a great deal for this sander, no doubt about that. I am starved for space, but I hate using a ROS so this would be a nice convenience.

Is this a deal too good to pass?

Yes. These machines are very pricey, but they provide service that can't be easily done any other way.

I have a 13/26" wide belt sander. It obviously finishes panels and boards quickly. Additionally, I've taken to using it for very fine thickness planing. I do miter keys on my boxes and the planer never seems to get them just the right thickness. The WBS can dial it in perfectly.

Even though I would probably be regretting my decision down the road I'd pass on this deal. I just refuse to deal with anyone who changes the rules after the game has started. Of course I'd first make some outrageous offer then back out at the last minute.

That is one thing that bugs me about this deal. But to his defense he was asking $200 to start. One heck of a gloat for sure, now not as much. I was mad when I saw the ad two days after he posted, but he was slow to respond so he still had it a couple days later. We will see how it shakes out.

sparky.... is that the one that that was on CL for $199 in PA? i got my ryobi 18/36 over last winter for $225. but JR is right, they are pricey. a new 18/36 jet is around $1000. i use mine for cleaning rough, paint covered boards with 80 grit, and work my way up to 150 before switching to ROS sanding. just remember that changing grits is a little more involved than swapping ROS hook and loop disks.

When I was looking at drum sanders a few years back I remember being advised to steer clear of the Delta, but I can't remember why . I think it had something to do with the failure in some to keep the drum parallel with the bed. Anyway, I wound up with a Performax 16/32 for about $300, so I don't think the one you're looking at is a super deal, and would probably pass because of the seller's waffling, and tell him exactly why. There will be other opportunities.

Yeah this was the one in Philly. He sent an email to further brag about the product, but I am not sure how many people it was sent to (BCC sent). I would think if he included some rolls it would sweaten the deal but he says he has 10 boxes and is selling on them for $30/ piece or off to the bay.
