Ryobi WDS 1600 price?

Hey guys, what's a good price for a Ryobi WDS 1600 drum sander in good condition?

The one I'm looking at seems to be relatively lightly used, and I've been thinking about building a drum sander for a while, so if I can pick this one up for a decent price, I can save myself a bit of work. I know they don't make these anymore, so would that worry you (re: parts availability, etc)? The 16" width isn't really a problem for most of the projects I have in mind, and I'm just assuming the "flip it around and do two passes" thing to get the doubled width on these open-end sanders is more of a marketing thing than a really practical day-to-day operation.

Any insight would be appreciated.

I actually paid on the high side for my used one ($450), but I'm still thrilled with it nonetheless.

One is posted for sale today on Minneapolis Craigslist; the asking price is $250. I'd consider that a great price based only on the photo.


I paid $385 for a used one several years ago. I think I paid a fair price.

Well, that's encouraging... I think I can get this one for under $200, so I guess that's a no-brainer, then! It appears to work fine (though may be missing the two .010" shims, I'll have to check), and probably hasn't got many hours of use on it.

I paid $250 for mine. I know people have paid less but I think I still got a
great deal. Don't know what I'd do without it.

Under $200? Grab it! A good condition machine would bring $350+.

+1 on the buy it recommendation. i paid $225 for one in really good condition last month. i've only had a chance to try it out on some rough plywood but it seems to do a really great job. if you can get one under $200, and it operates properly, i'd go for it. good luck.

Thanks for all the input, guys! I did snatch it up (for $150! Woo-hoo!), and it appears to be in perfect working order. Now I just need to find a good source for sandpaper (didn't come with any rolls), and I'll be able to test it out properly.

I'm pretty psyched, since I've been looking for a drum sander for a while, and the only ones I'd been seeing were $500+ Jets and Performaxes.

I had to disassemble it to fit it into the car, so once it's all back together, I'll snap a pic and post it. I think this is my first internet "you suck", so I'm pretty pleased!
