    Bosch PS20- Repair or Replace?

I have the Bosch PS20 and I love this thing. LOVE this thing. Only problem is, mine's not working properly. It's an issue with the electronic assembly. I'll pull the trigger, and only the LED tuns on. The motor does not. I used to be able to get the thing to work intermittingly previously by pulling on the trigger at an angle. However, now that doesn't even work.

So, I looked on Bosch's website, and the new electronic assembly is $46! (plus S&H, I can only assume). So, do I repair the thing or do I buy a new one? I've seen just the PS20 for around $100, and I know you can get a PS20 + the impact driver in a kit for about $160. So for a little more than 3 times the cost of repairing my old model, I can get the new model and the impact driver.

    What do you guys think?

The PS20 is nice for light-duty screwing tasks but falls a bit short today with the competition in speed/torque. If you are able to fix the PS20 for 46 that would be great because service charges would be much higher. If your batteries are getting old you might consider a new kit/brand. I own the PS20/40 and use the PS40 impactor for removing rusty bolts, driving bolts/screws, and drilling small pilot holes.

Might want to consider this rebate offer that starts March 1- could get a free PS20 if you buy another 12v tool.

PS20 is great for light screwdriving and drilling, but you can't beat the PS40 for impact driving. I'd opt for whatever method ends you up with one of each!

Dude! Tool wise you are not having a good day. There are several Thomas tool & supply co's in the TC area. Maplewood, Bville, Mpls they are the fixit shop for Bosch. If you decide to replace with a new unit it might be worth your while to disassemble the thing. Just might figure what the problem is. If I have anything that breaks or quits working I always take that route. Sometimes I fix it and sometimes I fix it so no one can fix it. But I always learn something. Quite often it's only how hard it is to tear it apart and **** there's a lot of small parts in here.

You could just buy a new body at Amazon $44.99 shipped and keep using the original batts and charger.

Yeah, add in my finger (see around the coffee pot), and it's a bad day overall, not just tool-wise...

Well, as an update, I took the thing apart and without doing much of anything- it now works again! Yay!

I've used this thing for so many projects, I consider it indespensible.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I may still get the impact driver, though I have a Ryobi, and I have no issues with that one.

If it ever stops working again or if you decide to pick up another PS20 internationaltool.com runs monthly specials where they give you a PS20 or PS40 with a purchase of any bosch 12V tool. Right now their promotion is buy any 12V and add the PS40 body for $19.99. Not great but still a little better than $160 for a PS20 and PS40. A few months back I purchased the PS30 for $139 and received the PS40 free. Their specials change on a monthly basis so you just have to keep an eye out.

Good going on the PS20 repair. I thought you would figure it out. You should have the same success with the compressor also. As to the digit I think not, that will take time to repair it's self.
