I,m p/u one of these Mon. and I thought I,d check here to see if anyone has any experience with them and is there anything in particular I should look for out of the ordinary when I inspect it?, Thanks,Tommyt
I guess you could say I have some experience with one Tommy as I have had and used one for 8 years. I have shaped hundreds of templates and free arcs with one. The dust collection is good as a shop vac end will slide right over it. As far as what you should be concerned about.. attempt to wiggle the spindle by hand for excessive play which I doubt.
Also... not much you can check on the motor as you have no idea how much is has been used. You would have to take the bottom off to even see the motor as it is closed inside. I assume you got one used as you are asking what to check? I generally run mine making templates in about 15-20 minute spurts and if you added up the time on the motor... guessing 100-120 hours which is not a lot of time but that is actually many.. many uses as you don't spend a great deal of time on the machine as I cut to 1 mm of a line and then file and rasp even closer.
It the spindle has no play.. I doubt a hobbiest will have that much time logged on the motor. For that matter... if I needed another one, I would simply get a new one as this is one of Ryobi's hits as every company has hit's and misses with machines..
Thanks Sarge, Thats kinda what I figured to look for but never hurts to ask if anything else particular to those 2 models might appear, I,ll post pics if I get it and see how well it runs, Thanks,Tommyt
Well turns out it wasn,t a Ryobi, but a Central Machinery instead, still works fine and in good condition, not a bad deal for $25 though, another steal for me, but it was about an 2 hr. roundtrip drive ,but worth it I think
