    Rikon 14" Deluxe quick-tension indicator

When I was looking at band saws one of the things that the Powermatic listed as a pro is that when the blade is detensioned, the quick-tensioning handle is in line with the blade so you will see it before turning on the saw. This gave me the and idea to implement something similar for my Rikon. Using a little cloth and a magnet I fashioned the following

View from the front when blade is detensioned

    and from the back

    Alternative detensioned views

    View when blade is tensioned

    Thanks for looking

good idea for the RIKON; I have a Grizz 14" that the detensioner handle is behind the upper saw case and sort of out of sight, so I took some brass tube, slid it over the end of the rod and put a red tag on the end of it. Now it shows up when ever you face the saw-a good reminder to tension the blade. Before I started the saw a couple of times with the relaxed blade! Not funny!

I just used my labelmaker, and put a "Tension" reminder just above the on/off switch. That way, it also reminds me to release the tension when I'm done.

That's exactly what I did with my 10-325 but ya know I still sometimes forget to tension the blade before I power up the saw. I'd also probably forget sometimes if I tried Hoakie's method.
