It's called a dust guide!

And it works but all it does is guide the dust to the right and left of the bag opening. What a silly idea.
This is the so-called part on my Hitachi CMS. It must have been loose prior to this last time when it shot the metal holder against the wall. Fortunately it did not ruin the blade.
That metal angle bracket holds it down away from the blade....or it is supposed to. It does now and I will check it periodically to be sure it is tight. The small screw just puts pressure on the bracket to keep it in the slot on the bottom. Then the other side is wedged against the housing to keep the plastic guide down away from the blade. I don't like the setup and was seriously considering cutting it off.

I never found DC on a miter saw to be very effective anyway.

No Cabinetman, I don't think it ever did work. I always have a lot of sawdust all around the saw. I can make a lot of cuts before there is much more than a handful in the bag. I tried connecting the vac to where the bag hooks on and it did little good.
I guess that is why they sell those big hoods for these things.

You could make a plywood collector shroud that might be more effective. Its a difficult application because of the space and distance. Plywood shrouds also work pretty good on RAS's too. I'll look for a link.
