    ROS sandpaper quality?

Is there a quality difference with ROS sand paper. I've always used Norton because that's what my local stores carry. But when I was at Lowes earlier this week to get the PC circular saw I noticed they carry Gator brand sandpaper. ~$18 for 50. Seemed liked a pretty great deal. Anyone use these or know if there is much difference from brand to brand?

I've used more Norton than Gator, but like them both. Don't waste your money on some crap brand, though. Sandpaper is one thing where you don't want an inferior product.

I've used the gator stuff and it seems fine to me. There is a difference between the black and the red stuff apart from the price. The black seems to sand better imho.

While we're on the subject, anyone have an opinion about Mirka? Most of what I see at the woodworking shows is Mirka, but I've never bought any. German, I think?

I've read reviews that are very favourable on the mirka stuff. My only problem is I can't get it locally.

I've had trouble with the black paper staining unfinished wood.

I currently have Mikra.. Norton.. Klingspor and a few low grit.. open pore Gators. I don't have complaints with any of them. I prefer cloth backing in as high a grade (A-F.. F being heaviest) as I can get. The Gator low grit has performed well and I wouldn't hesitate to purchase the higher grits for a try. Ali Industries (which is the maker of Gator has been around for 50 years serving industry in both construction... automotive and about all other aspects) are not new to the market and their product has been tested with time.

              Good luck...
