    PC profile sander

Does anybody own or has ever tried the PC profile sander. Is it really worth it?

There is one going on my local CL for $30. From what I see on the amazon reviews a lot of folks think they are a PITA and a waste of time.

I had a little experience with it. I think the one I was using was damaged in some way because the rubber profiles wouldn't stay hooked to the sander, they just fell out.
I have the dremel version and I like it. I admit: it doesn't get much use, but now and then. I had to sand the profiles on a tambor door for a roll top desk, paid for itself right there.

I have one and used it (tried to use it) to re-finish an oak dresser with lots of scroll work in it back in '96. After a couple of hours of changing the sanding pads and not getting much done, I used paint stripper to clean the old finish off.

Still have the PC sander but still have not used it. I think the Fein MultiMaster and HF Multi-tool will do a better job.

I started to buy one of these several years ago for around $100 new. However, after so many negative reviews (mainly the "pprofiles" falling off), I decided not to buy. I did find a box full of the different shaped profiles on the clearance table at Lowes for $2 and bought them. I often use them by hand with sander paper wrapped around them. Find them to be very useful.

Looks to be the same as the sanding attachment for the Fein MultiTool.

I own four PC routers, three PC nailers, a PC stapler, two PC circ. saws, a PC biscuit joiner and a bunch of other PC products.

The PC profile sander is the only power tool I've ever owned that I regret buying (except for the Ryobi profile sander ).

You can have mine for $20 plus shipping from Minneapolis. Save your money and buy a Dremel or a Rockwell multitool.

I bought a Fein Multimaster 6 years ago and it's my second favorite tool after my Panasonic 12 volt drill/driver. The Fein is spendy, but worth it.
You might think I haven't contributed much to the world, but a large number
of the warning labels on tools can be traced back to things I've done...

The only reason I haven't sold mine on craigslist is that somme other guy has been listing one for about 6 months.

Thanks guys I guess that confirms all the reasons I should not pick it up even for $30. These seem like a better alternative and are less money.

                      Porter Cable works

We're the exception. I bought mine quite a few years ago at a bargain price and didn't need to use it until this year. The extended flat sanding pad works fine for sanding in and around stair railings and components. Our Black and Decker mouse got a lot of use on the stairs until it burned up, the Porter Cable kept on going. We have the Dremel multi-X tool too, and alternate using them both.

I did have to pry the dust cover off of the switch and scrape out the sawdust once on the Porter Cable when it quit working.

Never used the profile sanding pieces though.
