Only one of you remembered what I said in my post about being an omen that my signs were lifted by the cops but that's ok you ALL made some good comments. I am starting a venture to utilize my tools like I should have long ago when I first retired! Of course these things will take time and I realize that!! I am going to be making novelty lamps and home/self defence [home invader killer] sling shots! Advertized as "firearm alternative" for when Obama and company starts on the famous Democrat "gun control" issue, trying to take our second amendment rights away and and flushing them down the toilet! I think I would rather be shot with a small caliber pistol than one of these projectiles I have developed that is a no miss proposition!! Why I am so thrillrd about keeping all my tools is on these 2 ventures 90% of all my tools that I so foolishly intended to sell wil be used, even my welders! My point being, if you are in good healih and able to use the tools hang on to them. I went looking the other day at woodworking tools at both H.D. and Lowes, they have nothing that even compsres with my BT3100 the way I have it fixed up! STILL THINKIN AND DRINKIN---CORNDOG

I like your thinking corndog.
Something you could try is to set up the tools outside, during good weather of course, and let people see you building something. It doesn't even have to be anything you intend to finish. I have to think that as people go by and see someone doing woodworking that some may stop and want a quote on a project. You can then pick and choose the work you want.
But I'd stay away from the new home construction and large additions!

Around here people have started using a cardboard box with their sign stick to the side and fill the box with heavy useless junk they don't intend to come back for.

The boxes will sit there for a week or two. They disintegrate during the next wind/rain storm and leave the junk on the sidewalk.

As for the plan..
Don't sell the tools.. I sold my large shop tools once .. It was too easy.. I miss em all and I'm slowly building the shop back up but the good deals and sales are slow to come through.

I think that is a big part of the problem - people see this as a trivial issue, and don't really understand that they could kill someone by putting a sign on a light pole.

Utility workers have died as a result of people stapling signs to pole. Lineworkers wear insulating gloves to protect them. These gloves are thick enough that it's not easy to see if they have been nicked by a staple while the worker was climbing the pole. Worker touches the live wires, and the thin spot on the glove caused by the nick provides a path for current to flow, electrocuting the worker.

I've only heard of one case where a person was prosecuted for their negligent homicide, but it is a signficant issue. I have to believe that if people realized they might well kill someone by placing a yard sale sign, they wouldn't do it.

IBEW, NSPE, OSHA, and other organizations have widely reported these deaths in their trade publications and reports. Some have even made the evening news. If you want confirmation, ask the safety department of your local utility. OSHA can also provide statistical information.
