power washer inlet

I went to borrow the MIL's power washer to clean the driveway with and found that the FIL had managed to snap off the inlet valve.

Normally I'd be fine with just getting a replacement part but A) no one locally has them and B) the official part from B$S is almost $30 with shipping. As it's broken once I'd hate to replace it only for it to happen again.

I'm not a plumbing expert but I would think it would be possible to create a inlet connection from pipe fittings? Has anyone here done something similar?

I would think that particular part could be made easily with stuff from any hardware or big box store. The only problem I can see is if the threaded end happens to be a fine thread and not NPT threads.

Seems like you can just make a no-frills garden hose connection, assuming standard pipe thread (as Dave points out). You could make it quick disconnect with easily obtained parts, too, but probably not for under $30, as you'd need both male and female connectors among other things.

I don't mind spending a bit more than $30 for the part is they're going to be all metal and less likely to snap off at the manifold. I had a hard time getting the old piece out.

I just looked at a Dixkon fitting catalogue and they show a GHT x 3/8"NPTF fitting for $5.30. I'm hoping that it will do the job.
