    delta vs Jet drum sanders

I have been trying to figure out how I can make room for a drum sander and think I could rearrange things to fit one of the 18-36 varieties. I am watching my local CL like a hawk as the jet 18-36 would be my preferance. I saw a Delta on consignment this week but it was still a bit pricey at $700.

Another one just appeared on CL for $500, still a tad above my budget but I had heard differring reports about it.

Any delta owners out there or has anybody had the chance to try both?

Unlike Delta, Jet doesn't have an 18/36 drum sander. They have a 16/32 (also a 10/20 and a 22/44). I have a 16/32 and love it. I read every review I could get my hands on before I spent $$, and the Jets (used to be Performax) aced the Deltas everywhere I looked, so that's how I went.

Adjusting the performax (now jet) sanders is a good bit easier than the Delta, as the delta needs 4 adjustment points and the jet has 1.

I have the Jet, and like it quite a lot.

Having thought about getting one someday and having done some research I would go to the Jet with the two you mention you are interested in.

I have a 16 32 performax [same as jet] and hardley does any project leave without being passed through it. Love my drum sander!

I passed on the delta, I am just going to have to be patient until I can find a deal on the 16-32 Jet or get a windfall of cash to buy a new one.

I have read before that everybody here who has the Jet loves it and has very little (if anything) to complain about. Some Delta owners seem to like it but there are quite a few that think its a POS. If it had been $200 I might have taken the risk but not for $500.

I think you made a wise choice. I got my Jet for around $300 (the strips that came with it were worth more than that by themselves) because I waited. The tough times we all face now are making guys pull cash back out of their tools (particularly the ones they don't use much these days), so there are good deals to be had.
