    Dovetail saw upgrade

I cut my first dovetails just this year with this:

It worked well enough, as I had sharpened the teeth before even using it the first time. But, I stoned the set out a little too aggressively, so it really grabs.

Well, that's reason enough to upgrade, right?:

It's the new-ish Veritas Dovetail Saw. These saws are really sweet, and at half the price of the next level of (arguably) similar quality, it was a no-brainer to give it a try. They have a really good "heft", due to the stainless steel-impregnated resin spine, and the handle is a really good fit to the hand.

So far, I've only made kerfs with it, taking the advice to ease the set by "just using it". (I don't want to make the same mistake twice by stoning out too much of the set.) To get a good start, I really have to concentrate on applying NO downward force beyond the weight of the blade, and as soon as I remember, I'm halfway through the first stroke. Unlike the Gent's saw, this one did not require any sharpening out of the box.

Can't wait for their tenon saw version!

    Regards,
    Tom
