    EZ Smart Guide

Bought a new tool. I've always wanted something like this, but the Lee Valley version never seemed up to snuff. Basically a generic version of the Festool. Hey, it was on sale!

Dino is a member here (hasn't checked in, in a LONG time). And I myself have had and used the system since 2004. I must warn you that comments like that, cause ALL kinds of problems on OTHER boards. Just a forewarning.

Will the base work on any circular saw in that the blade will always be flush to the guide? Do you have to drill holes on the base?

In the original kit (2004) he provided some double sided (effectively carpet) tape, to attach the base. Now, screws are recommended, and work better. On some models, you need to covert a screw from going from the bottom up, to the top down (some adjuster on some model I don't have).
The base will not work on any circular saws (worm, 10" or larger) but will work on most RIGHT bladed saws. Dino has a custom base (I believe it is a new option for right blade) for other saws (UHMW with an AC-3 (antichip) edge).

Once mounted, you trim the white edge, and until you goof up/chip it (replaceable) your edge is your cutting line.

That looks too cool. I have already dropped several hundred on routers, lifts, DC fittings pieces to make the table saw top bigger. If I spend any more I will be living with the dogs outside.
Awww forget trying to fix it!!!! Lets just drink beer

              Hi Guys.
I saw few hits and I stopped to say hi.
Bill, thanks for your trust and support.

About the "jeneric version of Festool"
The ez system is nothing like it.
We have one and waiting for few more US and EU patents.
When we first tought the ez system we had no idea about other guide systems.
That was a good thing because we designed the ez extrusions with an open mind and
with many first ever design features.
I will list few if the admin. of this forum allows me to post the design and capabilities of your new toy.

BTW, I just review the new Ryobi CS at the ez forum.
              Here is the link:

Low noice, smooooth motor, quick stop without a brake,
Great ergonomics and looks. Yes. All the power that you may need.
This is a 14 AMP saw.

For the money? I give Ryobi 6 out of 5.

Hi Dino. I just wanted to re-ask my question on how the newer model base plates are mounted to the circ saw. I have a GMC model saw and wanted to know if I can mount the base so the blade will be flush to the guide.

And thanks for the info Randal. I thought I would just ask the distributor as well.

                    hi jussi.
the smart base provides the means to align the saw blade to the guide with 2 side screws.
you just have to find 4 spots to drilll and tap or drill and use the provided screws and nuts.
If for some reason the side alignement rip is in the way.
( when your blade is more than 1-5/8" from the sawbase) you can remove the side rib of the smart base and align your saw to the rail using calipers or a small story stick.
You can find some instructions on the website under installation instructions (photo gallery)
or you can post in our forum to get more ways.
                    thansk.

No disrespect to this forum, but any questions about the EZ and I highly recommend its forum. Lot's of good ideas and product improvements have come from it. Heck, the repeaters received something like 3 redesigns in 30 days, do to customer/inventor, designer/originator/inventor feedback.

Once you have used it, it is less, EZ's product, and more YOUR product, as you find mods that you want to play with.
