I agree. I got the email from Delta and it looks like they may have stepped up their game to actually try and compete effectively with Jet on the mini-lathes. Be great if they had a compelling price to go with a pretty nice feature set.

Saw that one on the Delta site just a couple of days ago. It does seem like an improvement over previous models.

The only pricing I've been able to find is the 46-460 at mikestools.com, at $899.

I'm in the market for a new mini/midi, but that's a little rich for my blood....

Yeah, that's a nice lathe! I just bought my jet 1220vs though. I did get it for under 500$, so I can't feel too bad, but I really do think they've done a great job on making belt changing better than the Jet.

I keep my lathe near a wall, so leaning over it to change the belt is a pain, where-as the delta seems like it'd be much easier, not that the Jet is THAT hard though....

Nice improvements, but at 2x the price of the Jet mini?!

I posted this a few years ago -- luckily the idea came to me before I bonked every last neuron out of my head. Maybe you'll find it useful.

You may have to stare at the photo a while to get your bearings. This shot is taken looking down on the headstock of my Jet mini. I put mirrors on both the little pulley doors so I can see the pulleys without leaning over the lathe. In practice, I only need to look at the top pulley to see what I'm doing.

                Tom,

Great idea, I'm probably picking up a 1014VSI tomorrow and plan on adding this right away....

That is a great idea! Where'd you get the little mirrors? A craft shop perhaps? I'll be doing that, for sure, thanks!

That's a really good question -- I honestly don't have a clue. I'm pretty sure it was something I had laying around, though. Maybe you could get a hand mirror from a drugstore, pull out the mirror, and scribe it to size.
