    Trouble finding a tool thread.

I'm going to soon be needing a new sabre saw but I can't get the search engine to find any hits. I've tried jig saw, saber saw, sabre saw... anthing else? My 20+ year old Craftsman had the variable speed switch go out and they are no longer available. I'd like to see a thread of what others have been pleased with.

    TIA!
    Blessings,
    Chiz

Here is one recent thread on the subject.

(I searched using "Bosch" and "blades," having remembered that the Bosch saws always get good reviews, and many recommend buying Bosch blades for any jig saw, regardless of brand.)

I have a Bosch that I'm happy with. I'll admit that I don't use it heavily, but it's not too heavy, and has plenty of power.

Another vote for Bosch. Me likey very much. I have a 1587 I got used, and it's been a workhorse for me.

I started with a Craftsman electronic variable speed auto-scroll (and any other marketing terms they could find) jig saw many years ago. Although it wasn't a particularly bad tool, I only used it grudgingly when I had to.

In recent times I got a Bosch 1590 and more recently was given a Bosch 1587. These are both a tremendous step up in capability. In many ways I'm glad I had used the Craftsman for so long. I'm not sure I would have appreciated how superior the Bosch tools were otherwise.

I don't think you can go wrong getting either the 1587 or the 1590 (or the barrel grip counterpart). They are somewhat pricey, but you can often get a good sale or special price on the 1587.
