Wheel Marking Gauge Blade

In short, I have this and after a few drops on the concrete floor the carbide marking wheel is chipped up. All I want is a replacement and all they offer is this. I did manage to find one at Highland Hardware but it's $10! Have any of you found a substitute for this? I've thought of using a piece of a utility blade... Any tried and true substitutes out there? I'm too clumsy to keep buying the real deal at $10 a pop!

I did a shop made marker with a "blade" from a copper pipe cutter. Probably won't work for your situation. Pricing for this sort of item continues to amaze me. Priced like that it should last a lifetime (including drops!). I'm frankly getting tired of living in a disposable world, although I suppose it creates jobs.

Lee Valley sells a replacement for their marking gauge for $3.50. Don't know if it will fit....

Thanks, Tom! I don't usually ue Lee Valley so I never thought to look there. I'm not too sure when I bought my gauge from Woodcraft. They apparently changed the design and the wheel is different. And, Rich, great idea even if the wheel would be a bit on the HUGEside.

Anything Veritas can be had from Lee Valley. Although discounts on whole goods to other dealers might make those prices similar to LV, if you want parts, the source is usually the cheapest, as discounts on parts are usually not much, so you are having to pay the middle men their pound of flesh for their trouble, if you go beyond LV.
