    Harbor Freight Multifunction Tool

    Does anyone own this tool?

I am wondering what things it might be handy for and whether it is any good.

I just got a flyer saying it is on sale for around $45 if my memory is correct.

Here is a link to everything you may want to know about multi tools, AKA Oscillating Tools. Look for the Chicago Electric links for info and user feedback.

$45 is not bad and with the 20% off coupon even better.

If you get it let us know how you like it/don't like it.

        Hi,

Works well - blades have 4 index holes.

I found that with all of my HF tools that have a gearbox, and anything with a right angle output from the motor does, the gearbox has had no grease in it. So check and put some grease in them and they last way longer. Or buy their 2 year warranty with the 20% off coupon.

All HF tools are multi-function tools!
There is the intended use for which is is good for 1 or 2 times.
Then the resulting pieces or 'dead' tools is used for a hammer or door stop or a boat anchor...etc.
Why doesn't the word 'planing' show up in my computer spell check?

I used to think that. I bought a HF 7" sander polisher for a project because it was cheaper than renting. I've used it several times since then and it still works fine.

I have found that the HF angle grinder works just as well as the Makita after they both were dropped off of the roof. The difference being that I can drop several HF to each Makita. (that's a cost benefit comparison analysts.)

Thanks for everyone's replies. Demand for this item appears to be good. The Saddle Brook, NJ store told me they out of stock. They don't know when stock will become available because the re-stocking warehouse is also out of stock.

As long as you remember that HF tools are for hobby/weekend warrior use and not for daily full-time pro use you will be happy with most of the equipment from HF.

Was it a local flyer? I didn't see it in my HF emails...

I could really use one of these tools right now -- replacing some rotting trim...

Page 1 of the ad that expires 2/23 for $49.99

But good luck finding one in a store - I've been trying to use a rain check from Black Friday for $39.99 for over 2 months now...

Got one today, and works better than I would have thought. Dont know how long it will last though.

                              HF Multitool

Seem to be a lot of HF haters out there.
I just bought their mulitfunction tool and it works great. $39 vs $400 is a no brainer. As for sandpaper pads, just buy some hook & loop disk sander disks, stick in on the triangular pad and cut around with scissors.

I also have a HF 7" sander/polisher and a sawzall. Both work very well. I have to admit the sander/polisher gearbox is a little noisy tho.

I also have had very good luck with Dewalt (cordless drill, planer, orbital sander). The quality seems very good for the price.
